Every site walk-through we run turns up the same handful of signage gaps — not because teams don't care about compliance, but because signage tends to get installed once during fit-out and then rarely revisited as the floor plan, equipment, and hazards change around it.
Here's what our audits flag most often, in order of frequency:
- Faded or sun-bleached signs left in place well past the point of legibility, especially over loading bays and outdoor walkways.
- Missing secondary signage in local languages alongside English on shared or contracted-labour sites.
- Hazard signs referring to equipment that's since been moved, replaced, or decommissioned.
- PPE-required signage placed at the wrong entry point, so it's seen after workers have already reached the hazard, not before.
- No signage at floor level for automated or low-clearance equipment, which standard eye-level placement misses entirely.
The fix for most of these isn't a full signage overhaul — it's a standing review cycle. We recommend a quarterly signage walk tied to your existing safety audit schedule, with a simple checklist: is it legible from 3 metres, is it in the languages your floor actually speaks, and does it match what's physically there today.
For sites managing this across multiple locations, batching signage refresh orders by facility — rather than reordering piecemeal as gaps get noticed — tends to be both cheaper and more consistent. Our Workplace Safety team can run a signage audit alongside your next PPE stock review if that's useful.
